A project financed by the Croatian Science Foundation, Trustworthy Learning Analytics and Artificial Intelligence for Sound Learning Design, led by Professor Blaženka Divjak, PhD, started on 30 December 2023.

The TRUELA project will be implemented by the interdisciplinary research team of the Faculty of Organization and Informatics, in cooperation with renowned researchers from leading institutions in the area of learning analytics from Europe and Australia: The Open University UK, KU Leuven, Oulu University, Goethe University Frankfurt, Open University of Catalonia, and Monash University.

The project aims to build on the existing research and design efforts, investigate and take forward the synergies between learning analytics and artificial intelligence.

In particular, the objective of the project is related to the development of new learning analytics and artificial intelligence approaches and methods that use large amounts of data generated (primarily) in learning management systems. These methods and approaches will generate learning analytics that inform learning design, and support the implementation of innovative teaching methods and e-assessment strategies. The idea behind this is to help students overcome challenges related to reduced social interactions in online learning environments and acquire the intended learning outcomes. Moreover, the project aims to detect and analyse learning patterns in online and blended learning environments, and thus advance the understanding of learning processes.

Project activities have been planned in synergy with the activities of the ongoing Erasmus+ project iLed (https://iled-project.eu/). While the iLed project focuses more on innovation in teaching and learning practices, the TRUELA project will complement this with research-oriented activities related to learning analytics and artificial intelligence.

The duration of the project is four years, and the budget amounts to 120.000 euro.
